ATTO IV – Shattered Lines (2011).

Dags för årets andra progmetalliska överraskning. Alla som längtat efter ett band som är en blandning av Dream Theater och Porcupine Tree kan andas ut – och låna sitt öra till italienska kvartetten ATTO IV och deras Shattered Lines.

Det här är finurlig, associationsrik och growlfri progressiv-metall som stundtals drar åt jazz-fusion.

After two years in conceiveing, composing and experimenting, "Shattered Lines" is the brand new album of ATTO IV; a work that presents a band not only renewed in line up, but also in the way to intend the sound and the concept itself of "progressive".

Many influences converge in the nine tracks of the disc: fusion, heavy, alternative rock, electronic and noise are only some of the scrupolously proportioned and combined ingredients, to create a sonic building through whom essential lyrics about the Man, his contraddictions and alienating idiosyncrasies, continuosly wind; both during his individual life and in relationship with others. Every song is a trip through contrasting atmospheres, free associations of ideas, recurrences, sonic and compositives structures consciously plotted, but also sudden digressions and improvisations.

Shattered lines is to breaking the continuity, to interrupt a course; in good and bad. The polyedric and uncontrollable fragmenting of things and existence toward unknown directions

Jag gillar det här, men plattan lider av samma sjuka som de flesta andra i den här genren. Allt så förbannat välproducerat och perfekt att man nästan storknar. Detta sätt att spela in och mixa in är förmodligen lockande för de flesta artister, men det skapar en livlöshet som börjar gå mig på nerverna. Ett av skälen till att man gillar progressiv rock in the first place är ju att musikerna är duktiga på sina instrument. Men ibland önskar jag nästan att de skulle spela en och annan ton fel ibland…
