Enligt ett meddelande på Porcupine Trees Twitterpage är det nu officiellt att PT,s Steven Wilson och Opeths Mikael Åkerfeldt gör ett album ihop. Rykten om detta samarbete har varit i omlopp ett tag och förväntningarna är högt ställda. Plattan skall heta Storm Corrosion och släppas 2011.

Så här sa Wilson i en intervju för ett tag sedan:
“ I started writing with Mikael [Åkerfeldt] last month, finally. It’s still in the very early days. We wrote about 15 minutes of music last month in my studio near London and we’re very excited about it. I think people are going to be very surprised by the direction. If they’re expecting some kind of death-metal-progressive rock, they’re going to be surprised [because] it’s not like that. If you put the two of us together, the last thing we’re going to do is something similar to what people already know from our most high profile project. It’s very arty, very ambitious; it’s going to be epic. We’re still writing. [It’s going to be] very dark, very twisted, very experimental. It’s still rock music, but we’re trying to do something really, really special and really different with this.”
Och Åkerfeldt fyllde på i senaste numret av Classic Rock Presents Prog:
“ I don´t know if its a big deal or not, but for me it was just a massive thing. We´d talked about writing something together for 10 years, and I just went down and stayed for three or four nights in his new house. /// We sat down and I said - So what have you got? And he said - Absolutely nothing, mate! He asked me what I´d got and I had two things. I played them to him, a couple of licks and chords that I thought sounded nice, and we ended up writing two songs. “
Tidningen skriver -
“ It´s hard to imagine a pairing with more potential to delight the prog faithful, and both Åkerfeldt and Wilson must be aware of the huge expectations. Throw in the oft-rumoured involvement of Dream Theaters´s Mike Portnoy and this could be the ultimate modern prog supergroup.”
Frågan är om det är bra eller dåligt att Mike Portnoy, som nämnts som det tredje benet i detta projekt, nu inte tycks vara inblandad.
